About

Welcome to my website.  I am a child psychologist who has been working with children, teens, parents, and families for over 25 years. In this website, you will find brief descriptions of my books and workshops, as well as a variety of practical parenting articles that I hope you will find helpful. Note: If you have been forwarded to this website from 8simpletools.com, welcome. Unfortunately, the 8 Simple Tools parenting quiz is no longer available but I hope you will find the resources on this website to be helpful.

In terms of my professional bio, here is a brief version:  I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA.  We then moved to Columbus, OH, where I completed a postdoctoral fellowship with Wright State University at the Children’s Hospital.  From there I joined Summit Clinical Services in Wheaton, IL., where I have practiced for over 20 years. In 2021, my wife, Lora, and I moved to the Nashville area and I am now part of a wonderful group practice called Southeast Psych Nashville, where I continue to see children, teens, and families on a full-time basis. I have written six parenting books (faith based), several of which you can learn more about on the Books page.  I have presented many parenting workshops at many conferences, MOPS groups, churches, and schools, which you can read about on the Workshop page.  On a personal note, Lora and I have been married for over 30 years and we have two married sons and have been blessed with two wonderful daughter-in-laws.

In my free time, I enjoy doing anything with my wife, spending time with my boys and their wives whenever possible, reading, running, and playing jazz piano any chance I get.  My Christian faith is an important part of my life and thinking, and I am continually thankful for God’s grace, of which I am an undeserving recipient.
